About the Pet Lover's Expo

The Pet Lover's Expo is an annual event to raise money for the Lanark Animal Welfare Society. Centered completely around the animals, this day is full of fun and educational events for the whole family. Our annual 'Pet Fashion Show' sponsored by Paws A Bit pet boutique is the main event and packs the house! Medical research shows that older people who own pets experience significant positive effects on their physical and psychological health. A study at Cambridge University found that owning a pet improved general health in as little as one month. Pet owners suffered fewer ailments like headaches, colds and hay fever. This improvement continued over the 10-month study.Children too can benefit from pet ownership as owning a pet can teach a child about responsibility and mutual trust. By feeding and exercising a pet, a child can learn the value of daily care. Children with learning difficulties can also benefit from interaction with pets. The Pet Lovers Expo was created when a group of friends got together to raise money for charity. They decided the best way to do it was through their love of animals. In 2007, the 1st annual Pet Lover’s Expo was held in Merrickville, Ontario. By promoting responsible pet ownership and educating the public about animals they were able to fulfill their goals of raising money for charity. It turned out to be so much fun they did it again...and again...and again!
